The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) has released its monthly report titled “Taiz…Killing in Multiple Forms,” highlighting the violations that took place in Taiz during May. The report documents a total of 94 violations, with the Houthi militia responsible for 85 of them. Four violations were committed by non-state gunmen, and the remaining five cases were attributed to unidentified gunmen.
The report reveals that the HRITC field team documented the killing of 11 civilians, including a woman and three children. Among the victims, one officer was assassinated by a Houthi militia drone, and one child was injured by direct bullets from the militia. Additionally, three civilians were killed by non-state gunmen, while two civilians, including a child, were found murdered by unknown individuals.
The HRITC team also recorded the injury of seven civilians, with six of them being harmed by the Houthi militia. Two individuals, including a woman, sustained injuries from a Houthi militia sniper, four children were wounded by a Houthi militia landmine, and one civilian was injured by direct fire from non-state gunmen.
Furthermore, the report documents two cases of assassination and one attempted assassination. One of the assassinations was carried out by the Houthi militia, while the other was executed by unidentified gunmen. The HRITC team also documented a case of kidnapping by unknown gunmen and three instances of mass displacement. The Houthi militia forcibly displaced several families from isolation and villages in the Maqbana district.
In terms of property violations, the report outlines 70 cases, including two public property violations by the Houthi militia. These included the drone bombing of equipment used for road construction on Al-Kadha Road and an attack on a public cemetery resulting in excavations. Additionally, 68 private property violations committed by the Houthi militia were documented, with 23 houses partially damaged, 15 completely destroyed, and 21 vehicles damaged. Moreover, four houses were entirely demolished due to artillery shelling by the Houthi militia.
The report also highlights other instances of property destruction, such as the complete destruction of a house through the use of dynamite by the Houthi militia, the seizure of numerous local flour trucks, and the destruction of a vehicle through drone bombings and Houthi mining on a private farm.
Lastly, the report mentions one incident where a shop sustained partial damage from a sound bomb detonated by unknown gunmen.
