Taiz.. The Longest Siege in History

A new report by the Information Center documents the most prominent violations during the eight years of the systematic siege

Taiz / private:

The Human Rights Information and Training Center launched a qualitative report on the siege in Taiz, which today exceeds eight years of the siege applied as the longest siege in modern history.

The center said in its report entitled “Taiz… the longest siege in history (eight years of siege and systematic killing)” that the militia deliberately, with this applied siege and daily killing practice, continues its approach towards annihilating the city, and committing the most heinous crime in history in a racist manner against the people of the governorate. The most peaceful and militant.

Siege Violations Exceeding 3,000 Days:

The center revealed the most prominent violations against civilians since the Houthi militia stormed it during the period from March 21, 2015 to June 30, 2023, as the death toll reached 4,105 civilians, including 878 children and 464 women, while the number of injured reached 17,948 civilians, including 2,132 children and 2,660 women.

Tens of thousands of mines planted by the Houthi militia claimed the lives of about 779 civilians, according to the center’s field monitoring team, including 38 children and 23 women, and 1,296 civilians, including 71 children and 30 women, were injured.

There were 496 cases of kidnapping of civilians, 175 cases of enforced disappearance, 897 cases of arbitrary detention, 102 cases of torture, many of which led to death or permanent disability, complete paralysis of movement or insanity and psychological state, 97 cases of assault on civilians, and 78 violations of freedom of opinion and expression.

According to various reports, the most important of which are the reports of the International Organization for Migration, which was monitored by the Human Rights Information and Training Center #Hritc, the Houthi militia forcibly displaced and caused the displacement of about 4,255 families.

The total number of public properties affected by the violation amounted to 614 properties, 11 buildings were blown up, 87 buildings and public facilities were destroyed, 62 facilities and buildings were completely damaged and 379 others were partially damaged, 29 public properties were stormed and looted, and 26 public vehicles were damaged.

The total number of private properties that were affected by the violation amounted to about 3,387 properties. 169 houses were blown up, 208 houses and private facilities were destroyed, 323 facilities and houses were completely damaged, and 1,941 others were partially damaged.
