HRITC called for an international investigation into the burning of an immigrant prison belonging to the Houthi militia in Sana’a.
According to the information obtained by the monitoring team at the
center, the number of deaths is on the rise and today exceeded sixty and one hundred and fifty wounded, a number of them in critical condition, and some health volunteers were unable to reach the wounded due to the security secrecy imposed by the Houthi militia on the victims.
HRITC, a regional organization that has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations, appealed to the international community, led by the Security Council and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to take a quick step by sending an investigation team to follow up on a humanitarian issue that is one of the largest cases of grave violations that are exposed immigrants in Yemen.
According to preliminary information, the prison of the Immigration and Passports Authority under the administration of the Houthi militia holds more than six hundred immigrants from African countries, most notably Somalia and Ethiopia, in inhuman conditions.
Journalists circulated reports that the incident was not accidental, but rather intentional, especially since the detainees were among the migrant groups who refused to join the fighting fronts of the Houthi militia.
The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) called, in a statement today from Taiz and Geneva, for an international investigation into the incident, and called for the disclosure of the perpetrators of this tragedy and the need to protect thousands of migrants who are subjected to forms of torture and the risk of death at the hands of human trafficking groups.
The center expressed its regret, asking the Lord to have mercy on the victims and to heal the wounded.
