The Human Rights Information and Training Center – Hritc, in cooperation with the Haqqi Center for Supporting Rights and Freedoms (CRSRF), condemned the seizure of power by the army leaders in Sudan. Friday, November 5, 2021, due to the repercussions of the human rights situation in Sudan.
The statement indicated that since the army leaders seized power on October 25 and issued a number of unconstitutional decisions, Sudan has witnessed repeated violations of international human rights law, the most important of which was the arbitrary arrest of the Prime Minister and his wife, a number of ministers and members of the civilian Sovereignty Council, and a number of senior executives. Noting that NGOs have serious concerns that detainees will be subjected to torture, in addition to the suppression of peaceful demonstrations rejecting this seizure, the killing of dozens of protesters with live bullets, and the wounding and arrest of hundreds of them without legal justification, in addition to the continued threats, harassment and intimidation of prominent human rights defenders, journalists and actors in the Civil society.
Al-Aswadi indicated in the statement that some of these violations amount to crimes against humanity, stressing that they join the demands directed at the army leaders to issue orders to stop assaulting citizens and restore power to civilians; cessation of violence against peaceful demonstrators; Not to object to the exercise of their right to peaceful expression, to release all civilian detainees, and to stop the harassment of activists and journalists.
At the conclusion of the statement, Al-Aswadi indicated that all of this calls for urgent and decisive international intervention to restore constitutional authority and return to implementing the constitutional document.
