Taiz Report … The Longest Siege In History – Eight Years
The siege of Taiz by the Houthi militia is entering its ninth year, becoming the longest siege in history, and even the most heinous of all, due to the enormity of the Houthi militia’s crimes committed against about 2 million civilians on a systematic and daily basis. As that militia intentionally, with this applied siege and the practice of daily killing, continues its approach towards annihilating the city, and committing the most heinous crime in history, in a racist manner, against the most peaceful and militant people of the province.
The Houthi militia’s insistence on continuing its siege of Taiz is clearly due to sectarian, demographic, and racist reasons. The militia’s description of the city’s residents and all their opponents as ISIS and al-Qaeda, and the bloodshed of its children, women, and all its residents under that classification, is only an indication of its extremist and hostile thinking against the people of the entire region.
Siege of Taiz
Taiz is one of the Yemeni cities that has been under continuous siege since April 2015, and it is imposed by the Houthi rebel forces. This blockade includes cutting off the land, sea and air routes that connect the city to the rest of the world. Houthi forces are closing vital ports and facilities, preventing the entry of humanitarian aid and basic goods.
The lives of the residents of Taiz have been catastrophically affected as a result of this blockade. Basic services such as electricity, water, and health services have stopped, and the supply chain that supplies the city with food, medicine, and fuel has been severed. The prices of basic commodities have risen excessively, and it has become difficult for families to meet their basic needs. Despite the continuous efforts of humanitarian organizations and the international community to intervene and alleviate the suffering of the residents of Taiz, the siege is still in place and continues to exacerbate the human tragedy in the city. The international community must make greater and more cooperative efforts to lift the blockade and facilitate humanitarian access to the besieged population in Taiz. This requires a comprehensive political solution and constructive dialogue between the warring parties to achieve peace and restore stability in the city.
