HRITC

Non-governmental, civil organization that operates with full political neutrality and does not belong to any party, party or non-partisan, which is a scientific, intellectual body designed to promote human rights values in Yemen and the Arab world and is committed to all international covenants, covenants and declarations of human rights issued by the United Nations; The center specializes in spreading awareness of human rights through activities, training courses, intellectual meetings, office archives, publications and periodicals.

Offices:

Main headquarters based in the city of Taiz in the Republic of Yemen. It has headquarters in the capital, Sanaa
Coordination offices in Aden,Beirut,Cairo and Geneva.

Funding:

HRITC receives unconditional support from local and non-local organizations, institutions, and personalities, provided that it serves its independent scientific programs. The center is based on the contributions of subscribers and the support of donors as a charitable work devoid of any motives other than working to promote human rights concepts.

Goals of HRITC programs:

  • Raising the level of society’s awareness of human rights concepts.
  • Developing the center’s level of performance and raising the efficiency of its staff.
  • Developing the level of performance of non-governmental organizations working in the field of human rights.
  • Rehabilitation of those interested in human rights activists in human rights concepts and the various tools and mechanisms that help in monitoring violations and defending victims.
  • Strengthening the relationship of partnership and cooperation between the center and international and regional organizations working in the field of human rights.

 

The general Goal of HRITC:

It summarizes the general goal of the center by spreading awareness of human rights and enhancing concepts related to human rights and the service provides knowledge and library in this framework and training those interested in human rights activists.
HRITC general activity as a voluntary scientific institution is focused on the following:

  • A Training
    Holding specialized training courses and workshops in order to spread awareness of human rights and strengthen and develop NGOs to play a positive and active role in society.
  • Publications
    Establishing a scientific library containing publications and covenants on human rights, publications, pamphlets and pamphlets issued by local, Arab and international bodies as a knowledge and scientific service for researchers and those interested and archiving newspapers and periodicals that are concerned with human rights.
  • Activities
    Conducting seminars and intellectual meetings with scientific and impartial political integrity aimed only at spreading awareness of human rights and introducing international principles and covenants on human rights, in coordination with other bodies and organizations of mutual interest on the basis of equality, political neutrality and complete scientific integrity.

First: Human Rights Awareness Development Programs:

Its main task is to develop awareness of human rights, and this program sheds light on the human rights approach to the issues raised urgently in the intellectual arena and studies cultural & political problems, including culture related to civil rights. From the training unit in coordination with the educational program and the media publishing program.

Second: Training and Qualification Program:

The center promotes human rights education by:

  • General educational courses:
    Where the center holds at least an annual session for a wide number of human rights activists to stand up to the basic principles and concepts of human rights, and trainees from the Arabian Gulf states, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Palestine and North Africa participate in it.
  • Specialized courses:
    That are held for specific groups of society, such as lawyers, journalists, teachers, doctors, and law enforcement personnel, including police, prosecutors, the judiciary, and members of human rights organizations. It provides basic concepts of human rights and the linkages of the profession in preserving human rights with international laws.
  • Specialized workshops:
    Which the center holds in various human rights issues and in the development of NGOs in order to build civil society, public seminar  and lectures that perform the same purpose in introducing different categories of human rights principles.

Third: The Documentary Program:

Its mission is to create a specialized database in the field of human rights through the use of advanced document management techniques and to document various information through two basic

  • Office archiving:
    A library containing various publications in the field of human rights and monitoring the intellectual development related to human rights and at the main headquarters, as well as a branch in Sana’a, a library containing more than 3000 documents.
  • Press Archive:
    Follow up on what is published in the press and related to various human rights … such as the rights of children, women, the environment … and so on

Fourth: Publishing and information programs:

The Center publishes a journal (Our Rights Magazine in Arabic and a summary in English) that serves its main objectives in developing awareness of human rights, providing basic information in this field and following up on intellectual and legal developments in the field of human rights.

Publishing brochures, publications & pamphlets in the same framework that contain the symposiums of the center & working to publish intellectual publications aimed at fueling various aspects of human rights.
1) The Center publishes our rights magazine periodically four times a year (published from 2004 until now) in Arabic & English
2) He issued up to 38 books. In the areas of rights & development of democracy
3) He published ten research studies on education curricula and prison conditions.
4) The press file on human rights conditions is published monthly.
5) In the field of art for human rights, the center worked on publishing two plays that were widely publicized

Fifth: The legal aid program for women victims of violence:

It is a comprehensive program that aims to help women victims of violence in society. Addressing the phenomenon of violence against women and addressing its causes in order to end it. Providing direct legal aid to women victims of violence. The project started with the year 2001 AD to provide legal, psychological and health aid to women in the prisons of Taiz, Ibb and Lahj.
The program includes training and educating prison officials about the importance of helping women victims of violence, and educating the community about the need to combat violence against women.
The program succeeded in achieving tangible progress, which was the release of 163 women during the phase.
-The goal of the project:
Raising awareness of human rights principles in the official institutions responsible for these prisons as well as civil society personalities.

Sixth: Social Inclusion and Anti-Poverty Program:

It provides legal awareness and raising the economic level of the marginalized & poor groups, and opened the first permanent center in the city of Taiz [Al-Amal Program (Almal means the hope) for literacy and primary health education, and works regularly on these groups & raises their level with the social inclusion program in the surrounding community.

Seventh: Regional & international cooperation:

The Center has distinguished relations, cooperation agreements and partnerships with many international institutes and organizations that differ in establishing joint activities or attending and participating in various programs such as:
The Arab Institute for Human Rights in Tunisia, the International Institute for Human Rights in France, the Human Rights Watch and Organization in New York – Amnesty International – the International Federation for Human Rights – the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights – the Moroccan Association for Human Rights – the Documentation and Training Center – the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, the center Regional Human Security – Adalah Center for Human Rights Studies Jordan – Palestinian Center for Human Rights – Ramallah Center for Human Rights Studies.
The Center participated in several international seminars and conferences in Washington, New York, Chicago, France, Germany, Canada, Geneva, London, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Cairo, Jordan, Beirut, South Africa, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Turkey ect.

Eighth: The relationship with governments & official bodies:

Human Rights Information & Training Center (HRITC) as an independent NGOs has a good cooperative relationship with various governments, both in terms of support or the provision of expertise and training, and the HRITC has been a member of the advisory body of the High Committee for Human Rights in Yemen, and then the Ministry of Human Rights to provide its expertise and activities in cooperation with official institutions actor.
The Yemeni government has facilitated the center’s activities and worked to sponsor and support them, as HRITC trains many official bodies such as the police, prison officials and members of the Human Rights Subcommittee on the various international human rights principles and is one of the important activities that have received the praise of international organizations, including the human rights committees (Geneva) because it emphasizes cooperation and company between government agencies and NGOs in a manner that does not prejudice independence and impartiality.
Also, many of the participants came from official government agencies from various Arab countries, to participate in the center’s sessions and seminars, which is an affirmation of the importance of a successful and positive relationship that serves.
