Information Center calls for opening the rest of the roads leading to Taiz and lifting the siege

The Human Rights Information and Training Center (Hritc) called for opening the rest of the roads leading to Taiz and lifting the siege imposed on the city, which has lasted for more than nine years.
The center stressed in a press release today that freedom of movement and access to humanitarian aid are basic rights that must be guaranteed to every citizen, calling for the rapid removal of mines and the necessity of opening the rest of the city’s roads without any arrest procedures and working to restore normal life to the movement of internal trade, the obstruction of which constituted a collective punishment that affected the lives of the residents and continues to be a means of punishment and extortion targeting civilians.
The Human Rights Information and Training Center (Hritc), a regional organization with consultative status with the United Nations, warned against any attempts to exploit the opening of the road for non-peaceful purposes or to achieve narrow political goals, and that the goal of opening the roads should be to end the siege on the city of Taiz, improve the humanitarian situation, and enhance peace and stability at the level of Yemen, and not for any other purposes that may increase the suffering of the population or complicate the security situation.
The center also called for the need for international follow-up and community oversight to ensure the implementation of this step in a transparent and fair manner, in a way that achieves real benefit for citizens and enhances human rights in Taiz and all over Yemen.
Renewing its warning against any setback that may follow this step and return Yemen to a painful square of extensive military confrontations.
