Taiz … Between disease shelling, and siege – Second quarter 2025
This report, issued by the Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC), presents the humanitarian situation and the reality of human rights in Taiz governorate during the months of April, May, and June 2025, a period characterized by the escalation of civilian suffering as a result of the continuation of the siege imposed by the Houthi militias on the city for the tenth year in a row.
These months have witnessed complex challenges that have affected the basics of daily life for the residents of Taiz, represented by a severe water crisis, almost complete power cuts, and a suffocating shortage of domestic gas, in light of an accelerated economic deterioration as a result of the decline in the price of the national currency and an unprecedented rise in prices.
This coincided with an increase in population density within the city center, due to the influx of tens of thousands of families and displaced people coming from Houthi-controlled areas in search of a measure of safety and services, which led to enormous pressure on the city’s remaining infrastructure and capacity. The crisis was also accompanied by multiple security incidents that contributed to increasing the general anxiety among the population and exacerbated the dangers of daily life.
