HRITC sends a letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights demanding swift action in the case of the Houthi killing of a woman in Ibb

The Human Rights Information and Rehabilitation Center (HRITC) sent a letter to Ms. Michelle Bachelet, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, on the issue of continuing crimes against humanity in Yemen.

The Center demanded in the letter that dealt with the heinous crime committed by armed elements of the Al-Houthi group,

Where the militia stormed the house of Khatam Ali al-Ashari, 24, in the Al-Adayn area, in the Ibb governorate, while she was sleeping in her home at dawn last Wednesday, under the pretext of searching for her husband who was not present.

So they beat and tortured her in front of her four young children, including a two-month-old baby and another two-year-old.

They continued to assault and beat her until she lost her life a few hours later and before her arrival at the nearest hospital, and according to confirmed information, the Houthi security supervisors had previously threatened the victim’s husband.

The centre revealed the existence of a systematic racist policy carried out by the Houthi group towards citizens through the representation of its representative in Ibb listening to live testimonies confirming this, noting the statement of residents of the village of Al-Adin in which Mrs Khatam Al-Ashari was killed that they feel real fear of facing the suppression of influential members of the Houthi security apparatus because of the repression Which is practised against them and which amounts to enforced disappearance and loss of life.

HRITC considers this heinous crime a crime against humanity, noting that the attacks are part of a daily systematic practice carried out by the Houthi security services towards unarmed citizens.

The Center called for a speedy investigation into the case and work to open the file of the systematic torture that takes place in various places of detention in both Sana’a and Ibb governorates in particular.

HRITC also strongly called for swift action in the case of the murder of Khatam al-Ashari, as it consolidates a path of repression that does not stop, indicating that unless there is a broad international and humanitarian movement to stop these grave and continuing violations.
The Center called on Commissioner Michel to work seriously to condemn this crime and actively take action to stop the systematic path of torture, which has become daily behaviour in the security services of the Houthi group in the various Yemeni cities it controls.
