The Information Center participates in the meetings of the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights

The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) participated in the meetings of the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights, which started on Monday 30/08/2021 at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The meetings discussed 12 topics, including addressing Israeli violations in the occupied Arab territories, the conditions of Arab prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons, and the bodies of Palestinian and Arab martyrs held by the Israeli occupation authorities.
The meeting also discussed the latest developments of ratification and accession to the Arab Charter on Human Rights, the draft guidelines for the implementation of the Arab strategy for human rights, and the draft Arab plan for human rights education.
He also reviewed the draft Arab convention to combat violence against women and girls and domestic violence.
It also discussed the development of the drafting of a guideline against torture.
The meeting, in which the center was represented by a member of the advisory body of the center, the human rights expert, Magdy Helmy, witnessed discussions on the Convention to Combat Violence against Women and the observations of member states. The delegations suggested turning the convention into a declaration, especially with the many comments on it by member states.
A committee was formed to review it and discuss the issue of turning it into an advertisement
The meeting also decided to choose the slogan of the Arab Human Rights Day under the slogan of the right to a healthy environment in light of climate change.
The meetings were opened by Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector, who stressed in her speech the importance of the meeting, especially with the presence of experts and civil society organizations that enjoy observer status.
She also referred to the effort exerted in drafting the Arab Convention to Combat Violence against Women through the Arab Women’s Committee.
Ambassador Osama Suleiman Al-Dhuwaikh, head of the committee, stressed the need to uphold the values of human rights and to deal with them impartially and fairly, and that achievable rules should be established on the ground. In his speech, he reviewed a report on what had happened in the previous meeting of the Committee
Today’s meetings concluded with the announcement of the final recommendations.
