With the participation of HRITC: The Fourth Arab Regional High-Level Conference on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights
Cairo:
Yesterday, the work of the Fourth Arab Regional High-level Conference on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights, entitled “The Impact of Crises on the Enjoyment of Human Rights: The Covid-19 Pandemic as a Model”, was concluded yesterday, which took place on 25-26 July at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in cooperation and partnership between The Arab League and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The conference aims to stand on the impact and repercussions of the “Covid-19” pandemic on human rights in the Arab region, highlight the efforts made to reduce the economic and social consequences of the epidemic, diagnose existing challenges, extract the most prominent lessons learned, and explore the outlines of the future roadmap.
The participation of the Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) in this important conference, as an observer member of the Permanent Arab Committee on Human Rights in the General Secretariat of the Arab League, stems from its interest in human rights and that measures to confront epidemics and crises should not be at the expense of respect for human rights.
The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) was represented in the work of the conference by Magdy Helmy, a member of the Center’s advisory body, and the Executive Director, Arafat Al-Rufaid, who presented a working paper in the fourth session.
The conference was attended by various mechanisms of the Arab human rights system, both national and regional, a high-level delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and representatives of a number of specialized United Nations agencies such as the World Health Organization, the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
