The Human Rights Information and Training Center “HRITC” launched its semi-annual report on the humanitarian situation in Taiz, in which it documented the occurrence of about 430 violations against civilians during the first half of this year 2022.
In the report entitled “Taiz, a fragile truce and a forgotten war,” the center revealed the extent of violations in Taiz committed by the various parties that manage the conflict in the governorate, led by the Houthi militia, where the cases committed by that militia amounted to 317 cases, followed by armed men outside the framework of the state, which amounted to 317 cases. Their violations are about 75, and the violations of individuals affiliated with political factions in the government army amounted to 23, unidentified armed men committed 14 violations, and only one violation was committed by the joint forces of Tariq Saleh.
“Right to Life”
The report was able to document the killing of about 60 civilians, including 10 women and 8 children. The Houthi militia killed 36 civilians, including 10 women and 7 children, of whom 9 civilians, including a woman and 3 children, were killed by the various missiles and missiles fired by the Houthi militia on residential neighborhoods intensively, and 5 were killed. Civilians, including 3 women, were shot by snipers, and 7 civilians were killed by direct fire from Houthi gunmen.
The mines planted by the Houthi militia on roads, farms, and homes killed 4 civilians, including two women, and the explosive devices killed 5 civilians. One woman was burned to death by an anti-aircraft explosion. 3 Houthi militia civilians were executed, and two children were killed as a result of Houthi bombing by drones.
Armed men outside the framework of the state killed 18 civilians with direct bullets, and 3 civilians were killed by direct fire from members of the government army, and unknown gunmen killed 3 civilians, including one child, by direct fire as well.
The center’s field team documented data on 149 civilian casualties during the reporting period, including 26 children and 20 women. The Houthi militia injured 101 civilians, including 19 women and 20 children, as 39 civilians were injured, including 6 women and 9 children, by various missiles and rockets, and 22 civilians were wounded by a sniper’s bullets. Including 6 women and 7 children, 10 civilians, including two women and a child, were injured by the explosion of landmines, and 14 civilians, including a woman and a child, were injured by explosive devices, 11 civilians, including a woman, were injured by Houthi drone strikes, and 3 civilians, including a woman and two children, were injured by suffocation from the smoke of anti-aircraft fire. And two women were wounded, one of them was hit by direct bullets and the other was run over by a Houthi military crew.
Militants outside the framework of the state injured 40 civilians, including a woman and two children, as 34 civilians, including a woman and two children, were wounded by direct bullets, and 6 civilians were wounded as a result of the attack on them.
Meanwhile, members of factions in the government army injured 6 civilians, including 3 children, 4 of them, including 2 children, were injured as a result of the attack, and two civilians, one of whom was a child, were wounded by a military crew.
Unidentified gunmen injured one civilian, while the joint forces of Tariq Saleh injured one child as a result of the attack.
“Multiple violations”
In its report, the center said that it had documented 11 cases of kidnapping, 3 cases were committed by the Houthi militia, 4 by militants outside the framework of the state, and 4 by the government army.
The center’s team also documented the occurrence of 7 attacks committed by the Houthis, one and two cases committed by armed men outside the framework of the state, and 4 cases of the government army.
The center’s field team documented 8 cases of violations of freedom of opinion and expression, the Houthi militia caused 3 cases, armed men outside the framework of the state caused two cases, and unknown armed men caused 3 cases.
The team monitored the displacement and displacement of 79 families caused by the Houthi militia, where the largest cases of displacement and forced displacement were documented in February, which amounted to about 45 families displaced from areas west of Taiz and southern Hodeidah governorate. .
In April, 34 families were displaced as a result of violence and direct targeting of residential areas by missile and artillery bombardment by the Houthi militia.
“Civilian objects”
The team also monitored 116 cases of violations of public and private property, including 12 cases of public property, 5 of which were caused by the Houthi militia, 3 cases were caused by individuals affiliated with factions in the army, and 4 cases were caused by armed men outside the framework of the state.
These violations affected 104 private civilian eyes, and the Houthi militia caused 89 cases, including 69 homes and 20 vehicles, including bombing, burning, raiding, looting and booby-trapping, and members of factions in the army caused 3 cases, while armed men outside the framework of the state caused 9 cases, and armed men caused 3 unknown cases.
The field team of the Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) monitored one case of assassination by armed men outside the framework of the state, and the occurrence of 4 bloody massacres committed by the Houthi militia, which killed 3 civilians and wounded 21 other civilians, including two women and 3 children.
