2022 Annual Monitoring Report
Taiz governorate extends over an area of 12,605 km² and ranks first in terms of population in the Republic, as its population constitutes (12.2%) of the population of the Republic, and the number of its directorates is 23. It overlooks the most prominent and important international waterway, which is the Bab al-Mandab Strait. It connected the provinces of Yemen north and south, as well as its western coast to Hodeidah.
The general situation in Taiz remains bleak, nearly eight years after the Houthi militia stormed the governorate and tried in various ways to control it.
Today, the situation is full of facts, events, and crimes committed against civilians by various parties, albeit in different proportions, but the Houthi militia always remains the most committed of those crimes that directly target civilians, starting from the intense shelling and ending with minefields and the targeting of civilian objects.
The violations of the Houthi militia against the people of Taiz governorate do not stop, despite the fact that its cannons stopped for the first time since it stormed the governorate and launched its fierce war to subdue it by all means.
Despite the decrease in the intensity of the military confrontations in the vicinity of Taiz during the month of December, the brunt of the siege imposed by the Houthi militia is still on its devastating situation for people’s lives, as the continuation of the siege remains a real disaster that is reflected in all the details of the difficult life, which is getting worse day after day.
The annual monitoring report for the year 2022 is part of a series of reports monitoring monthly and qualitative violations in Taiz Governorate, Republic of Yemen.
