Violations in Taiz 2024 – 233 Violations Documented by the HRITC, with the Houthis Leading


Taiz Violations 2024 – Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC)

The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) has released a field report documenting 233 violations against civilians in Taiz Governorate during 2024. These violations include killings, injuries, abductions, and property attacks.

The report, titled “Taiz… A Siege in the Shadow of Oblivion,” revealed that the Houthi militia was responsible for 179 violations, followed by armed groups operating outside the state with 24 violations, the government army with 15 violations, the US-UK coalition with 9 violations, and 6 violations committed by unknown gunmen.

The Right to Life

These violations resulted in the killing of 41 civilians, including 25 men, 14 children, and 2 women. According to the report:

  • Houthi militia was responsible for 34 killings.

  • Armed groups outside the state killed 4 civilians.

  • The US-UK coalition caused the death of 2 children due to shelling.

  • Unknown gunmen killed 1 civilian.

The HRITC’s field team documented 94 injuries, including 42 children and 5 women. The responsible parties were:

  • Houthi militia: 63 injuries.

  • Government army: 12 injuries.

  • Armed groups outside the state: 10 injuries.

  • US-UK coalition: 7 injuries.

  • Unknown gunmen: 2 injuries.

The report highlighted a massacre on December 1st, when the Houthi militia targeted a public market in Al-Bawmiah village, Maqbanah District, using a drone strike, killing 6 civilians and injuring 8 others, most of whom remain in critical condition.

Targeting Property

The report also documented 81 property violations, including 2 public properties and 79 private properties. The Houthi militia was responsible for 72 violations, including the destruction of 41 homes and 29 vehicles. Other parties, including unknown gunmen and the government army, were also involved in property attacks.
