On the Developments of Popular Movements in Taiz

The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC), a regional organization holding consultative status with the United Nations, stresses the importance of strengthening the path of human rights in Taiz Governorate and ensuring that perpetrators of violations and abuses do not escape accountability.
HRITC commends the massive public demonstrations in Taiz rejecting insecurity and demanding justice against those responsible for rights violations and breaches of the law. This widespread civic movement reflects a deeply rooted societal awareness of the need to restore state institutions, reinforce the rule of law, and end impunity.
In this regard, the Center urges the competent authorities and political and security leaders in Taiz to swiftly complete transparent investigations into the assassination of Afthan Al-Mashhari, Director of the Cleaning Fund in Taiz, and to bring all perpetrators of this crime—as well as other recent crimes in the city—to justice, in line with principles of fairness and accountability.
HRITC further emphasizes that ending the uncontrolled spread of weapons and removing armed groups from within the city are essential and urgent steps to curb violence and extremism, and to create a safe environment that protects civilians and upholds their fundamental rights.
The Center also calls on the Yemeni national leadership to restructure the army and security forces in accordance with military service laws and constitutional principles, ensuring the establishment of professional and effective institutions capable of protecting citizens, safeguarding the rule of law, and ensuring civil peace.
Finally, HRITC reaffirms its solidarity with victims of violations and their families, underscoring that the respect of human rights, the promotion of justice, and accountability are the only viable path towards building a state of law and achieving lasting peace and stability in Yemen.
