Forum For the Future…
A step Towards Democratic Reform
Despite the importance of the Partnership Initiative for Democratic Reform in the Middle East and the broad attention that this initiative has received since the end of 2004 AD, a lot of ambiguity remained surrounding this step with the lack of information about it and the documents that came out of the various forums that are essential milestones in the initiative’s path from America To Morocco, to Bahrain, Jordan, and Yemen.
This book, prepared by Professor Ezzeddine Al-Asbahi, is the primary reference for the initiative and for the first time to provide a full explanation of the basic steps that started from the June 2004 Sea Island Summit in the US state of Georgia, from which the first step came out in the presence of the leaders of the eight major industrialized countries (G8 countries) and some leaders of the Middle East. And ended with the various forums held by the Forum for the Future as the framework that organizes the annual and periodic meeting of this initiative. With a focus on the most important aspects that remained in the shadows, and we are aware of the role of civil society in these meetings and the active participation of civil society in developing different visions for the desired democratic reform.
Professor Ezzeddine Al-Asbahi remained one of the people who contributed with clear and serious earnest to strengthening the role of civil society in the democratic transformations in the Arab region and an active participant in all these meetings that took place during the past years.
That is why when this book was prepared and presented to him, it provided us and the Arab Library with a summary of an important experience, and important documentation we need and can only be of assistance to every researcher and to all who follow the issues of democratic reform in the Arab region to see the course of an important initiative that has occupied the center of attention during the past years.
It is a book that includes for the first time the information and documents you need about the Greater Middle East Initiative and the events of the Forum for the Future in the Middle East from the very beginning.
