Despite the entry into force of the UN truce that began on the second of last April, the Houthi militia insists on continuing to commit the most heinous violations against civilians in Taiz. The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) announced that it had documented 73 cases of violations that affected civilians in Taiz governorate during the month of April 2022, according to a statistic It is double from the previous month.

The Houthi militia was the biggest culprit in committing these violations, with 56 of them, 12 others were caused by gunmen outside the framework of the state, while the government army caused 4 cases, and unknown gunmen caused a case.

The center said in its monthly report entitled “Taiz…the armistice siege!” that the field team documented the killing of 7 civilians, including two women and one child. The Houthi militia caused the death of 4 of them, including two women and a child.

Where the Houthis killed one woman with a sniper’s bullets, while another woman was killed by a Houthi mine, and two civilians, one of whom was a child, were killed by direct bullets. Two civilians were killed by direct fire from gunmen outside the framework of the state, and one civilian was killed by unidentified gunmen.

The field center team was able to monitor the injury of 14 civilians, including 3 women. The Houthis injured 6 civilians, including two women. 4 civilians, including a woman, were wounded by a Houthi sniper, and two other civilians were injured, including a woman, with a landmine, while armed men outside the framework of the state injured civilians. Two of them were attacked, and a civilian was attacked and injured by members of the government army.

The field team documented the injury of 6 civilians, including a child, as a result of direct bullets fired by gunmen outside the framework of the state.

The center’s field team documented 3 cases of kidnapping committed by the Houthi militia in two separate incidents.

According to the International Organization for Migration, it also documented the displacement of 34 families between April 17 and 23 despite the entry into force of the UN truce, as a result of violence and direct targeting of residential areas with missile and artillery bombardment by the Houthi militia.

The field team of the Information Center monitored 3 cases of violations by media professionals and activists, one of which was committed by individuals affiliated with the government army, and another by individuals affiliated with the Houthi militia, while armed men outside the framework of the state committed the third case.
Twelve cases of violations of private property were documented, including partial damage to 3 houses and partially to 4 vehicles as a result of the bombing, and the seizure of a private vehicle by the Houthi militia.

It was also monitored that two houses were partially damaged by gunmen outside the framework of the state, and a house and a motorcycle were partially damaged by the bullets of members of the government army.

The report touched on the suffocating water crisis in the city as a result of the intransigence of the Houthi militia, which constitutes another disaster for the besieged city in terms of thirst that affects people and the scarcity of water, which is reflected in a wide environmental and health deterioration.

The unfair mats stop the work of hospitals:

The report also indicated that the siege imposed on the city, which prevents the entry of medicines, medical supplies and oil derivatives, prompted a number of hospitals to announce stopping their work more than once.

Taxes that break the burdens of citizens:

The field team of the Human Rights Information and Training Center – Hritc also monitored two incidents of illegally imposing levies on traders in the center of the city, in addition to levies imposed by the Houthi militia at ports and on factories and merchants, in addition to illegal levies on merchants in the city besieged by the Houthis and under the control of legitimacy, Whether from armed men outside the framework of the state or from armed men affiliated with members of the army, such as taxes imposed on transport trucks in the points extending on the only port of Taiz that connects it to the south with the capital, Aden.
