The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) announced that it documented 31 cases of violations during the months of January and February in Taiz Governorate, of which the Houthi militia committed 24 violations, and gunmen outside the state committed 5 violations, while individuals in the government army each committed one violation and unidentified gunmen also committed one violation.
The center said in its monthly report entitled “The Killing of Childhood in Taiz”
The field team documented the killing of 8 civilians, including two children, who were all killed by the Houthi militia, except for one civilian who was killed by unidentified gunmen. Two civilians were killed by direct bullets from gunmen affiliated with the Houthi militia, while a child was killed by a mortar shell, a civilian was killed by a landmine, and another civilian died as a result of Torture in a militia detention center, a child was killed by a Houthi sniper, and one civilian was liquidated by Houthi militants.
The field center team was able to monitor the injury of 8 civilians, including a woman and 7 children. The Houthi militia caused the injury of 5 of them, 4 children and a woman. A woman and a child were injured by Houthi sniper bullets, while 3 children were injured by mortar shells that the Houthi militia continuously bombs residential neighborhoods with. 3 civilians as a result of the explosion of an explosive device belonging to militants outside the framework of the state.
The center indicated that the grave violations that Taiz suffers from affect children more than other groups in society, and that the deadly effects of the siege target the childhood sector more than any other sector, as it is the most fragile sector and exposed to violations.
In another aspect of the report, the Centre’s field team documented one mass arrest case carried out by Houthi militants. The team also documented 14 cases of violations affecting property, including one case of general property committed by the Houthi militia.
13 cases of violation of private property were documented, as 4 houses were partially damaged, 2 others were completely damaged, and 3 vehicles were damaged by Houthi artillery shelling. The Houthi militia looted funds for distributions to the needy, and 2 vehicles were damaged as a result of a hand grenade explosion by gunmen outside the framework of the state.
