HRITC appeals to the United Nations team on enforced disappearance to work on the release of the activist Radwan Al-Hashidi and his companion in Marib
Human Rights Information and Training Center – hritc called on the legitimate Yemeni government authorities in Marib to release the activist and journalist Radwan Al-Hashidi, and quickly reveal the circumstances of his kidnapping and his companion Salah Al-Ibi.
According to Radwan’s family, he was arrested upon his arrival at the airport in Sayyun, Hadramout (eastern Yemen), while he was coming from Cairo on July 7, 2020, and then he was transferred to Marib.
According to the statements of the family and those close to them, Radwan was accompanied by his friend, Salah Al-Abi, and they were detained in Cairo on June 8, 2020.
Human Rights Information and Training Center – HRITC addressed the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression as well as the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances in a letter to him today requesting their urgent intervention to follow up on the incident confirmed by the Center’s monitoring team through their communication with the Al-Hashidi family and those close to him Cairo, where he was detained based on security coordination, according to those close to the Yemeni authorities, and then they were deported via Yemen Airlines on July 7.
The information confirms that up to this point, his family’s inquiries or any contacts have not been answered to know his condition, cause and location of the arrest.
The center’s statement said that the silence of the official authorities on this matter is classified as a crime of enforced disappearance and it is feared that Radwan and Salah will be subjected to torture.
HRITC, a regional organization holding consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, stressed the speedy release of detainees, enabling their families and lawyers to visit them in case of any legal claims, and observing detention procedures for any legal reasons according to the rules of international human rights law.
