The conclusion of the courses of the late Abdullah Khalil “Journalism and Human Rights” and “Journalism in the Light of Armed Conflict”

The work of the course on journalism during conflicts, organized by Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) during the period from 6 to 10 August, concluded today the training course, which was named after the late lawyer Abdullah Khalil, the legal expert and one of the founders of the information center.
The session included two main axes, the first axis, journalism and human rights, and the second axis, journalism in light of armed conflict.
55 participants and participants from different parts of the Arab world participated in the course supervised by the human rights expert, Magdi Helmy.
Trainer Magdy Helmy said that the session was a real addition, as the participants emphasized through their distinguished interaction and linking their knowledge with fieldwork.
The course focused on enhancing the participants’ capabilities in the professional aspect, as well as knowing the important legal basics.
In the principles of human rights and international humanitarian law.
For his part, Arafat Al-Rafid, Executive Director, pointed out the distinction of this course, which comes within the specialized training programs of the Center, which the Center is working on during the coming period to face the difficult challenges that the Arab region is going through.
The course of the late Abdullah Khalil targeted a number of journalists, media activists and lawyers in various Arab countries, through an intensive program in two main axes. The first dealt with topics: freedom of opinion and expression, human rights, how to write news and news reports, press investigation, analysis and follow-up news of all kinds.
The second dealt with topics: armed conflicts in international law, the role of the press in calming conflicts, the protection of journalists, and the arts of coverage and photojournalism during armed conflicts.
At the end of the course, Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) launched a training manual on journalism in armed conflict, to be a knowledge addition available to all media professionals and jurists.
