HRITC calls for an international intervention and describes the Houthi bombing of Al-Amal Children’s Hospital in Taiz as a war crime
Taiz / Saturday 24 October 2020
The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) condemned the Houthi militia’s bombing of densely populated neighborhoods in Taiz this Saturday morning and the direct targeting of Al-Amal Oncology Hospital (Fourth Point Hospital for Children), which is located in the heart of the city.
According to initial monitoring, two hospital employees were injured, the building suffered material losses, and dozens of patients and visitors who were crowded with panic were affected.
According to the Monitoring Team of the Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC), which is an organization whose has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, At least two artillery shells deliberately hit the place, and it is clear that the hospital was a central target of the Houthi bombing.
HRITC statement said that this is a clear crime to target a well-known hospital and a clear landmark in the city, which is the only health institution that deals with treating tumors, especially children.
The bombing is a crime against humanity that necessitates international action against the systematic crimes carried out by the Houthi militia in Taiz.
Moving the international investigation file on these crimes has become an urgent need, so that the war criminals will not escape accountability.
HRITC said that the United Nations special bodies, especially the Office of the Special Envoy of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, are required to move urgently to condemn these crimes and work to strengthen the course of justice and stop the attacks in the modern era.
