The need to move towards criminalizing the systematic racism practiced by the Houthi militia on a large scale against the largest category of Yemenis because of their color
Geneva / Special:
The Human Rights Information and Training Center (HRITC) and the Insaf Center for Defending Freedoms and Minorities Before the Human Rights Council, under Item 9 of the #HRC46 session currently held in Geneva,
The statement expressed deep concern about the bad situation experienced by religious minorities and other marginalized groups in Yemen due to their beliefs, ideology, or color, in light of an ongoing war that is working to escalate violence, marginalization and repressive practices against these minorities.
Furthermore, in the statement presented by Dr. Mohammed Almahfali, a researcher at the Middle East Center at the Swedish University of Lund, Representative of HRITC, he stated that while the international community is trying to push the peace process in Yemen and release prisoners from both sides, no one represents minorities in these dialogues,
Therefore, we strongly demand that the Council and its members look for the representation of these minorities and those without a vote at this critical time.
The statement referred to the systematic violence practiced by the Houthi group against the Baha’i minority through continuing malicious and unfair trials in order to pressure them, as it continues to suppress the Jewish minority and the illegal detention of a Libyan citizen, Salem Marhaby.
In the conclusion of the statement, the council called for the need to move towards criminalizing the systematic racism practiced on a large scale in Yemen against the largest group because of their color.
