1061 violations monitored by the Information Center during the first half of this year in Taiz


Taiz / Special:

The Human Rights Information and Training Center “HRITC” launched its semi-annual report on the humanitarian situation in Taiz, in which it documented the occurrence of about 1,061 violations against civilians during the first half of this year 2021.

In the report entitled “Taiz … Between the Siege Pliers and the Lawlessness”, the center revealed the extent of violations committed by the various parties running the conflict in the governorate, led by the Houthi militia.

The cases documented by the center’s field team, which were committed by the Houthi militia, amounted to 900 violations, followed by armed men outside the framework of the state, whose violations amounted to about 77 violations. The violations committed by individuals affiliated with political factions in the government army amounted to 57 violations. The joint affiliate of Tariq Saleh and outside the framework of the state 11 violations.

The report was able to document the killing of about 101 civilians, including 4 women and 22 children. The Houthi militia killed 60 civilians, including 3 women and 18 children, of whom 17 civilians, including 3 women and 7 children, were killed by the various shells and missiles fired by the Houthi militia on residential neighborhoods extensively. Also, 6 civilians, including 4 children, were killed by snipers, and 17 civilians, including two children, were killed by direct fire from Houthi gunmen.

The mines and explosive devices planted by the Houthi militia on roads, farms, and homes killed 11 civilians, including 4 children, and one child was killed by a hand grenade explosion, and the Houthi militia executed 3 other civilians.
Houthi gunmen beat a civilian to death, and others ran over two civilians by a military crew, and two civilians were killed as a result of torture by the Houthi militia in Al-Saleh prison under their control.
Armed men outside the framework of the state killed 20 civilians, including a woman and 3 children, 15 of whom were killed by direct bullets, while a woman was executed by hanging, 3 children were killed by a grenade explosion, and another civilian was killed by an explosive device explosion.
Members of political factions in the government army killed 10 civilians, including a child, 6 of whom were killed by direct bullets, a child was killed by an artillery shell, and another civilian was killed by a sniper’s bullet, while members of the army executed a civilian outside the law, and another civilian was run over by a military crew.
Unidentified gunmen caused the death of 7 civilians, 5 of whom were killed by direct fire, and 2 civilians were assassinated, and the “joint forces” of Tariq Saleh killed 4 civilians by direct fire.

The center’s field team documented data on 229 civilian casualties during the reporting period (January 1 to June 30, 2021), including 76 children and 26 women. The Houthi militia injured 163 civilians, including 23 women and 44 children, of whom 74 were injured by various shells and missiles, including 13 women and 18 a child, and 27 civilians were wounded by sniper bullets, including 8 women and 13 children, 10 civilians, including 3 children, were wounded by direct fire, and 28 civilians, including two women and 8 children, were wounded by mines and explosive devices.
Twenty-one civilians were injured when a hand grenade exploded by Houthi gunmen, and 3 civilians, including two children, were injured by a Houthi military kit.
Militants outside the framework of the state injured 32 civilians, including a woman and 9 children, 14 civilians, including a woman and 3 children, were wounded by direct bullets, 13 civilians, including 3 children, were wounded by an explosive device, 3 children were injured by a grenade explosion, and two civilians were injured as a result of the attack on them.

Members of factions in the government army injured 26 civilians, including two women and 21 children, as a result of artillery shelling. Unidentified gunmen injured 4 civilians, including a child. A civilian was wounded by an explosive device explosion, and 3 civilians, including a child, were wounded.
Members of the joint forces of Tariq Saleh injured 4 civilians, including a child, with direct fire.
In its report, the center said that it had documented 147 cases of kidnapping and enforced disappearance, of which the Houthi militia committed 137, armed militants outside the framework of the state kidnapped 5 civilians, and the joint forces kidnapped 3 others, while unidentified gunmen kidnapped civilian and armed men outside the framework of the state kidnapped another civilian.
It also documented the occurrence of 11 cases of assault committed by 3 cases, including individuals affiliated with political factions in the government army, and 5 cases committed by armed men outside the framework of the state, while unidentified armed men committed two cases, and the Houthis committed one case.
The center documented 411 cases of displacement and forced displacement of individuals and families perpetrated by the Houthi militia. The center also documented 3 cases of violations of freedom of opinion and expression, two of which were committed by the Houthi militia, and one case committed by armed men outside the framework of the state.

The team also monitored 159 cases of violations of public and private property, including 6 cases of public property. The Houthi militia caused 4 cases, and individuals affiliated with factions in the army caused two cases.
These violations affected 153 private civilian eyes, of which the Houthi militia caused 122 cases, and members of factions in the army caused 15 cases, while armed men outside the framework of the state caused 14 cases, and unknown gunmen caused two cases.
The report documented the occurrence of 6 bloody massacres in Taiz governorate during the month of March, 4 of which were committed by the Houthi militia, which killed 7 civilians, including 4 children, and injured 18 civilians, including 4 children.
While members of the government army committed one massacre and militants outside the framework of the state committed another massacre.
The report dealt with the state of assassinations, chaos, and insecurity in the city. The team documented the assassination of a military commander and his companion by gunmen outside the framework of the state, and the injury of 9 soldiers with an explosive device planted by the Houthis.
