530 violations monitored by the Information Center during the first half of this year in Taiz The humanitarian situation in Taiz


Taiz/ Exclusive: The humanitarian situation in Taiz

The Human Rights Information and Training Center “HRITC” launched its semi-annual report on the humanitarian situation in Taiz, documenting the occurrence of about 530 violations against civilians during the first half of the current year 2023.

In the report entitled “Continuous killing despite the silence of the guns,” the center revealed the extent of the violations committed by the various parties managing the conflict in the governorate, led by the Houthi militia, as the cases committed by that militia amounted to 470 cases of violations, followed by militants outside the framework of the state, whose violations amounted to about 33 violations, 8 violations by individuals belonging to political factions in the government army, 18 violations committed by unidentified gunmen, and only one violation as a result of clashes between members of the government army and gunmen outside the framework of the state.

“Right to life”

The report was able to document the killing of about 46 civilians, including 3 women and 11 children. The Houthi militia killed 20 civilians, including 3 women and 7 children, of whom 4 civilians, including two women and a child, were killed by the various shells and missiles that the Houthi militia fired intensively at residential neighborhoods, and 9 civilians were killed. Among them, a woman and 4 children were shot by snipers, and 3 civilians, including two children, were killed by direct fire from Houthi militants.

The Houthi militia killed one civilian and ran over another civilian with a military vehicle, and two civilians were killed as a result of Houthi drone strikes.

Gunmen outside the framework of the state caused the death of 14 civilians, including one child, of whom 12 civilians were killed by direct fire, and one child was killed by return fire.

Members of the government army killed 4 civilians, 3 of whom were killed by direct fire, and a member of the government army assassinated another civilian.

Unidentified gunmen killed 7 civilians, including 3 children, one of whom was killed by direct fire as well. One civilian was also assassinated, and civilians, including two children, were killed by return fire, while two other civilians were killed, including a child.

One civilian was killed as a result of clashes between members of the army and gunmen outside the framework of the state.

The center’s field team documented data on 68 cases of civilian casualties during the reporting period, including 19 children and 5 women. The Houthi militia injured 52 civilians, including 5 women and 16 children. 15 civilians, including a woman and 5 children, were wounded by various shells and missiles, and 28 civilians were wounded by sniper fire, among them. 3 women and 7 children, and 6 civilians, including 4 children and a woman, were injured as a result of the landmine explosion, two civilians were injured in Houthi drone strikes, and one civilian was injured as a result of severe beatings.

Gunmen outside the framework of the state injured 11 civilians, including one child, as 9 civilians were wounded by direct fire, and two civilians, including a child, were wounded by a hand grenade.
While members of factions in the government army injured 3 civilians, one child, two of them were wounded by direct bullets, and one child was hit by a military vehicle.
Unidentified gunmen injured two civilians, including a child, as the child was hit by a recoil gun, while one civilian was injured by a grenade explosion.

Violations continued in Taiz during the first half of this year 2023
And it diversified to make Taiz’s file more painful.
In its report, the center said that it had documented 5 kidnapping cases, 4 of which were committed by gunmen outside the framework of the state, and 1 case by unidentified gunmen.
The Center’s team also documented two cases of mass arrests committed by the Houthi militia, one case of assault committed by gunmen outside the framework of the state, and one case of torture committed by the Houthis.
The team monitored the displacement and displacement of 204 mass displacement cases caused by the Houthi militia.

“Civilian Objects”

The team also monitored 202 cases of violations of public and private property, including 5 cases of public property, caused by the Houthi militia.
These violations affected 197 private civilian objects, 185 of which were caused by the Houthi militia, 122 houses and 56 vehicles were bombed, burned, raided, looted and booby-trapped, and one case was caused by individuals affiliated with factions in the army, while 3 cases were caused by gunmen outside the framework of the state. Unknown 8 cases.

The field team of the Human Rights Information and Training Center monitored 4 assassinations, two of which were committed by unknown gunmen, one by the Houthis and one by gunmen outside the framework of the state, and two assassination attempts by unknown gunmen.
