The Information Center calls on the United Nations to open the Taiz crossings as a serious step to strengthen the armistice in Yemen
Taiz /
The Human Rights Information and Training Center – Hritc called on the United Nations and the countries supporting the peace process in Yemen to quickly open the crossings from Taiz and other Yemeni cities.
A statement issued today by the Center, a regional organization with consultative status with the United Nations, said that strengthening the truce announced by the United Nations in Yemen and which entered into force on the second of this April, important steps have been achieved, such as the entry of oil derivatives ships through the port of Hodeidah, which contributed With the influx of many ships loaded with oil and derivatives, the official authorities in the internationally recognized legitimate government announced the start of air traffic from Sanaa airport next Sunday, in a first step since the outbreak of the war seven years ago.
The center indicated in its statement that so far the roads between the various Yemeni cities have not been opened, especially the points controlled by militias affiliated with the Houthi group, and that the siege on the city of Taiz is still the same, with eyewitnesses confirming to the monitoring team of the Information and Rehabilitation Center for Human Rights that violations and shelling continued on Residential neighborhoods during the past week.
The center said in its statement that the main test for the success of the truce in Yemen and the consolidation of confidence steps towards the desired peace lies in the step to lift the siege on the largest city in Yemen, where Taiz has been suffering for seven years from an applied siege, and the systematic bombing of civilians by Houthi forces, which inflicted the largest number of victims in Yemen During the war that erupted since the Houthi takeover of the capital, Sanaa, in September 2014.
The Human Rights Information and Training Center – Hritc stressed that finding a truce on the burning fronts such as Taiz and Al-Hodeidah is the real indicator of its success, and that the opening of safe crossings for the population and the flow of internal trade between cities in Taiz, Al-Bayda and Al-Hodeidah is the most important step to create a serious opportunity for peace and start stopping a destructive war.
The center’s statement indicated that steps such as releasing detainees from Houthi prisons and opening crossings by his forces to citizens are inexpensive steps that do not require any arrangements other than the presence of a real will that believes in peace.
Failure to implement this makes the United Nations truce in vain and raises the fear of a broader collapse in a country that suffers from total destruction in all aspects of life.
